There are some really cool 3D printing startups out there, and it’s a great feeling when you get a group of them together. On Tuesday, as a part of the Toronto Maker Festival, our team got to hangout at a 3D printing Innovation Night and share our technology with the local maker community. The event had a good showing, and some even better live demos.
Our friends at ReDeTec hosted the event, and Tiko 3d, Matter and Form, and Structur3d were all there. Structur3d had their discov3ry paste extruder printing icing designs on chocolate wafers - easily the most tasty display. Matter and Form were showing off Bevel – their latest product that’s now live on Kickstarter, and the Protocycler was in full force creating new filament from pellets and botched prints.
We put the Palette to work live printing a topographical design. Topography prints turn out nicely in one colour, and look incredible in multiple.
We tried something new too; instead of dumping during our splices we decided to have a continuous print (just to see how the colours could blend).
We finished the print back at our office. Check it out!
It was awesome to meet some Kickstarter backers and other makers at the event, plus hangout with the other 3DP startups. Nothing beats seeing great technology and chatting with awesome 3D printing people. The maker festival continues until August 2nd in Toronto and it’s free to attend events.
